LOGLINE

As shadows of violence reach Nepali villages during the outset of a civil war, poor villagers migrate from Nepal to big cities of India to survive. A young boy wants to disobey his family and stay back to play football with his friends.

SYNOPSIS

Set during the outset of the Nepali civil war, the story follows an innocent teenager. Even though people are leaving the village and migrating to India to work for a living, he keeps disobeying them because he wants to play in an upcoming football tournament. But the shadows of the violence brewing throughout the country also reaches his village and changes everything. Based on a true story, this film is about innocence, childhood, migration and lost dreams.

“KALAM” had its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival 2019 in South Korea, competing in the Asian Wide Angle category. This short film won Best Film and Best Director at the Nepal International Film Festival 2020. It has been showcased at over 100 film festivals worldwide.
